Too good to be true?

August 24, 2011  |  Biz Wax  |  No Comments

If you own a website you’ve probably come across a few of these scams and offers that sound too good to be true. You may be doing business or have done business with a provider who is not generating the results they claimed they would. Here are a few pitfalls to watch out for.

  • Domain Registry of Canada. They will send an invoice like letter inside of an official looking brown envelope. They are offering a domain renewal service that is 3 or 4 times above the average cost. Don’t be fooled. If you see something from them toss it out.
  • Solopreneur business hosting. It should be between $130 and $200 per year. If you are paying more and you only have a basic web site it’s worth your while to reevaluate your account to make sure you are not overpaying.
  • Free offers for website design or to increase your web traffic can sound too good to be true. Make sure to review these offers with a local consultant before you agree to any contract or subscription.
  • All web marketing services should yield measurable results (good or bad). If your web marketing company is not providing you with measurable results in the form of a weekly or monthly report then it’s time to start asking questions. Why not start an independent review of your web marketing campaign with someone you trust?

Merge Facebook accounts and find out who owns your domain name

August 11, 2011  |  Biz Wax  |  6 Comments

This week we cover a recent Facebook feature discovery that allows us to merge two accounts into one! If you have a business page as well as a business check-in page you can merge them easily. We’ll show you how.

We would also like to show you how to take ownership of your domain name. Many small business owners think they own their domain name but when they realize they do not, it’s usually too late. Find out who your administrative contact is for your domain name and make sure it’s you! You might be surprised.

How to use Facebook Merge

  1. Login to your Facebook business page and click ‘Edit Page’ (top right corner).
  2. Click on ‘Resources’ tab in the left side bar.
  3. Click on the ‘Merge Accounts’ link once it appears
  4. At this point Facebook should guide you through the process of merging two accounts.

Who owns your Domain Name?

Find out today. You might be surprised who is listed on your public domain name record.

  1. Go to DNSSTUFF.com
  2. Enter your domain name under the WHOIS Lookup form field and submit that form.
  3. Check for the email address listed under the Administrative Contact area. Is it yours?

If you see an old email address listed or perhaps an unrecognized email address then that should get your urgent attention. Contact us or your web provider to ensure you are the owner of your domain name.

We’ll see you next week for our Sweet Results Campaign for August 15th.
